I really have been taking my health for granted. Hobbling around sucks! I can't ride, swim, run, and can barely walk at some times. This injury has made me realize how blessed I am to have my health.

Hit the East Macon Trail with a few other Flat Pedal riders today. Jason K, Glenn, Bill, and I went straight for the BMX track to try it out. The Red Clay on the BMX track was just damp enough to stick to our tires. My bike weighed 20 lbs more after just one lap around. We hit the trail expecting plenty of downed trees. The Trail is in very poor shape (a shambles). I again was embarrassed to say that my club maintains this trail. We did the normal race loop stopping often to lug our bikes over downed trees. We had fun riding as a group on the fast twisty downhills. 3/4 way through the lap I was attempting to bunny hop a small branch and my rear tire cased it and threw me forward on the bike. I put my right foot down and then my bike lunged forward and slammed the chain ring into my calf. I have had this happen several times before with just a minor scrape. When I looked down I expected to see just that, but it was much worse. I had a huge flap of meat and skin dangling. I quickly took off my shirt and tied it around tight then rode the rest of the way out. Glenn poured a gallon of water over it before we drove home. Bout 1 hour later I was getting 23 stitches at the Med Stop in Kathleen, GA. I will be wearing Shin guards when I ride trails from now on no matter how hot it is.

I have been ramping up my saddle time lately. Last Thursday I did the commute to work/lunch/home thing again. I ended up with 56 miles and 4+ hours on the bike for that day. I have reached my weight goal as well. I am now down to 195 lbs. Just when my training was coming together I had to get injured. Now I am stuck on the couch for at least a week. No riding for a week?! OMG!

Well we are finally settling in at our new house. We still have a few things to unpack and organize but feeling right at home. We are really enjoying the pool. A full size, in ground, vinyl bottom, salt water pool with a diving board. I have been swimming some laps but have not made it a regular routine yet. I do not like the small swim goggles that barely cover my eyes. They make me feel claustrophobic. I bought a larger size of swim googles that are tinted. EXSL vortex water sports goggles. They make swimming laps much more enjoyable especially in bright mid-day sun.

Although I have not been posting much as of late I have been putting in some serious saddle time on my HARO. Last Thursday I commuted to work and took the long way, then rode home and back during a long lunch, then rode home after work, then drove to Thomson and did a lap there. I ended up with 48 miles and 4+ hours on the bike for that day. Sunday I went to do a few laps at the Pig Trail. I had to cut out half way into the first lap because I bent some cogs in my rear cassette somehow and my bike would not stay in gear. I had been there doing some recon with the usual suspects that volunteer. We were scoping out problem areas that needed to be worked before the Georgia State Championship Final Race that is to be held there August 5th.

Have I mentioned that I'm a very lucky man? I'm Engaged!

Sorry about the Delay in Action......... I'm still learning this web design thing. When I started this blog I just used some space in my Drafting Services Web Page, www.thorntondrafting.com. I have a regular 8-5 job but do some drafting in my spare time to make ends meet. I have had that page for over two years now and have never generated any business from it. Most all of my extra work is generated from word of mouth. Now I am attempting to Separate my blog from my drafting web space and just drop the Drafting Pages. I am moving everything over to www.georgiamtb.com. I had no problem redirecting to that address but when I tried to copy all my pages over to the new domain the links got all hosed. Any way I'll figure it out soon. But just a FYI my Blog address has changed to www.georgiamtb.com and soon will no longer be accessible thru old links. Any links or references to any of my information that was under the old thorntondrafting page will be broken. Enough about that NERDY stuff on with the TRAILS!
