I will go ahead and tell you I did not compete in the Xterra. Because I decided to drive up the morning of, arriving in time to arrange my gear would require me to LEAVE Home before 5:00am. I woke up at 6:00am. Yes, I am Disappointed Too. I have had this trip planned for months. I just kept changing the plan. I should have stuck to the original plan. I hear that Renee Won her Tri. Strong Work Renee!

Today I drove out to the Pig Trail to do some Riding and some Kiosk Building. Shane designed an awsome addition to the existing signage at the trail head of the pig trail. Diana, Mark, and Jessie also were there to drive a nail or two. We added a roof over the existing sign. Also made space for Two sign boxes on the back. I managed to drive quite a few nails and had a good time.

Roof Addition

Today's Ride: Pig Trail, 1 Lap, 7.1 mi, 52min, 8.2 mph avg

I'm all registered for the Xterra At Fort Yargo tomorrow. It should be a learning experience for me. I have done some Bi-athalons, But never a Tri-athalon. I'm just gonna concentrate on finishing. I Stopped by the Bike Store and Purchased some Perpetuem. Charles always gives me a good deal on Hammer Nutrition Stuff there. Mark D was there getting his bike repaired, it had a "Squeak".

I will forego the overnight stay tonight and tomorrow. I'm going to drive up to Ft Yargo first thing in the mornin. Thank you for all the well wish's.

Congratulations to all the Middle Georgia people that represented this past weekend at the Bakers Dozen Race. Mark D has a great right up and Photos on his Blog.

Cassidy and I Arrived in Fine Fashion at the Central Georgia Cyclist Meeting that was held tonight at Prinnie Mack Coffee Shop in Warner Robins. We were on our Bikes. The Meeting went great and Shane does a good job of keeping us informed of what's going on. I signed up for the Relay for life Team, officially. Should be a Great Time Riding my bike all night in a 5 mile loop around the Perry fairgrounds. And I also Signed Cassidy up as an official Member of Central Georgia Cyclist (CGC) tonight.

Attempted to do Race Distances for the Ride and Run Legs without stopping today at Thomson. The Xterra Off-Road Tri on April 28th at Fort Yargo State park has a 1/2 Mile Swim, 10 Mile Mountain Bike, 4 Mile Trail Run. The 1/2 Mile Swim is very intimidating.

Busy week so far, seems like a blur. I did manage to accomplish a few things. Monday I rode out at Thomson during the day before all the regulars came. That was the only time I had to ride. Tuesday Cassidy and I went out to Thomson and hung Plex-Glass with hinges on the Kiosk. I'm not impressed with my work. I just do not have the right tools. I have a drill and a socket set. After Cassidy helped me with the Kiosk cover, we did a By-Pass loop with her riding and me Running. The rest of the time this week I have spent Burning my eyes on a Puter Screen, Washing Clothes, Cooking, and washing dishes. Tonight I managed to ride the Schwinn Air-Dyne for an hour.

I am getting use to the heart rate monitor workouts. I gave up trying to comply with the heart rate limits it prescribes during workouts. I just use it to monitor and record what I do. And in that respect the HRM has motivated me to train more. I have been uploading my data from my HRM to the Polar Personal Trainer on-line. It gives me a summary of stats such as total duration, miles, calories burned, and of course heart rate data. There, I can even set up a training program to follow.

The Georgia State Championship Race (GSC) #2 at Heritage Park near Athens, GA is this Sunday. This race is also the Southeastern Regional Championship Race (SERC)#4. I will not be racing. Good Luck to all that are! Cassidy and I will be running in the DogWood Festival 5K in Perry, GA this Saturday. If the Rain holds out that is.

I should try to do some swimming in preparation for the Xterra Off-Road Tri on April 28th at Fort Yargo State park. I have not swam since the Ocmulgee Adventure Race last July. I wonder how warm the water at Lake Juliette is by now. Might as well dive off the Deep End and start out swimming in open water. I'm sure I will be side and back stroking for the 1/2 mile swim of the Xterra, It's gonna be so much FUN!

GeorgiaMTB.com going live today! I assume you can see a change in banner graphics. In an effort to become more easily located on the web I have changed this blog to GeorgiaMTB.com. Now I can just say "Go to GeorgiaMTB.com for more information" when I am talking to someone. My E-mail Is GeorgiaMTB@Gmail.com. I wanted to separate this from my ThorntonDrafting.com. This is still just "work in progress". I will continue to update and learn as I go.

Rode Thomson Trail today. I put my HRM on silent and tried to do some "race pace" laps. My first lap Ronnie dove into the woods before me and had a head start. I dove in and tried to catch him. Dude was Blazin the trail. I caught a sight of him at a few corners and tried to go as fast as I could be he kept makin ground on me. My first lap was ~30 min. My next lap I slowed down a bit and kept a steady pace. Then on my Third Lap Jessie Shows up at the the trail head. I don't even stop I fall in right behind him and was able to keep up, Struggling to keep up but managed to do it. I've ridden With Jessie several times before and he always manages to be just a little faster and slowly leaves me behind. I was glad I was able to keep up. I think that's the lap my HR hit 225! For my third lap I did a partial lap taking the last two By-pass trails.

I like to listen to all kinds of music when I ride. A wide range of genres from Kenny Chesney to Crytsal Method to Ozzy Osborn to Fergie to Justin Timberlake. One piece of electronic equipment that I prize is my MP3 Player. It is really a valuable part of my riding when I'm alone and on long rides. I have a Creative MuVo TX FM. It is an MP3 player as well as a FM Tuner. One of my Favorite things to listen to when I ride is The American Top 40 with Ryan Seacreast. My MP3 player can record FM radio. So I record it and listen to it sometimes when I ride. Of course I still download plenty of other music from I Tunes to listen to.

MY Creative MuVo TX FM MP3 Player

Today's Ride: Thomson: 3+ laps 17 mi, 2 hr 3 min, 8.3 mph avg - HEART RATE: HR avg 152 HR max 225!

Spent the whole day today volunteering at the Perry-Roubaix. I got to block traffic at the intersection of Perry Pkwy and Elko Road. It was kinda boring since I'm not much of a roadie. I know, I know, there are strategies and team work and seeing how riders work together to catch the breakaway. Big whoop! I'd rather watch golf. I'm glad I got to help out, I did learn a thing or two about road racing.

Yesterday I had a chance to try out my new Polar Heart Rate Monitor (HRM). You enter your Weight, Height, age, and resting heart rate into the HRM. It then ask if you want to Maintain, Improve or Maximize your heart rate. Then it sets up a exercise schedule with the duration and heart rate range you are to stay in to reach your goal. I set it to Improve mode. So I got up early and went to Thomson to trail run then ride a couple laps. I set my HRM and started my run. Right off the bat it starts beeping at me telling me to Slow Down. I am above the set range my heart rate should be. So I continue for a 3 mile loop and it beeps constantly through out as I'm over the range. After I finish I record my results then Set it for another Exercise Session, A longer duration session. I take off on the bike just warming up in the first part of the trail. AGAIN it starts beeping at me the whole way telling me to slow down that I'm above the heart rate prescribed to "Improve". I just ignore it and ride on, it never quits Beeping. I just do not have it configured right. Once I got home I decide to try it out one more time to complete the initial test. I strap it on and set out to cut my grass. I have a "Self-Propelled" walk behind mower mind you. I set the HRM and start cutting the grass, So, what do you know? I'm right in the middle of the Heart Rate Range for the entire hour I cut the grass. Long story Short..... If you want to just "Improve" your heart rate, go do some yard work. I'll have to go back to the the instruction book and re-configure My HRM so I can get the most out of it.
